Total Essentials Reports & Reviews (16)

I got 'got' by an initial call from Total Essentials, because I was new into the role and we did need ink for printers. When I tried to buy 2 cartridges, they sent me 2 FULL PACKAGES (16 cartridges) and expected me to pay for them.

Ever since then we obviously never wanted to talk to these scammers again, but, they incessantly call my business. Week after week. They won't stop. We reject them immediately on the phone, and they call again the next day with a new person. I've called them, emailed them, everything I can do to try to get them to stop harassing our business with products we don't want (And were scammed into buying). But they don't stop.

I officially reported them to our voice carriers so we can block the calls.

This company is a pure scam operation. If you order anything from them, they will send you 10x what you ordered, and demand payment for all of it.

Do not do business with these people under any circumstance. Btw their prices are NOT cheaper. It's a total scam outlet.

Our organization has had an extremely troubling experience with this vendor for quite some time. Their representatives called our business using deceptive tactics, presenting themselves as if we had an existing relationship and pressuring whoever answered the phone into “confirming” an order for toner we never requested.

Even after we clearly stated that we did NOT want any further contact and that no one in our organization was authorized to place orders with them, the calls and emails continued. Despite our repeated warnings, they went ahead and shipped toner we did not order, at outrageously inflated prices.

This behavior is unacceptable. The company’s practices feel deliberately misleading and predatory, targeting unsuspecting employees to push unauthorized, overpriced products. Based on our experience, I strongly advise other businesses to be extremely cautious and avoid engaging with this vendor altogether.

A sales representative from Total Essentials called our business to promote their office supplies--and especially printer ink. A sales representative said that the company would like to send us printer ink to try out and that we should pay for the ink cartridge only if we liked the quality of the ink and printing. We said we were not interested because our business has HP printers that require using genuine HP cartridges and prevent the use of counterfeit or unauthorized cartridges. The sales representative insisted that their cartridges were compatible anyway and that they had duplicated the HP chip. We said that we were not interested, but we did share the model number of our printer in good faith. (Bad idea.) Almost immediately, the first sales representative transferred the call to a "supervisor" "because he was still new." (Red flag #1. Oh, if only we had hung up then.) The "supervisor" said they had compatible cartridges and again repeated that he could just send a cartridge to us for us to try and we should only pay if we liked the quality of the ink and we determined that the cartridge was compatible. They asked us to confirm the business address, which they already had. To get them off the phone--and being nice, passive Midwesterners--we confirmed that was the correct address, and we said it would be ok if they mail the ink cartridge. (Bad idea #2.)

Our scam alerts were right on. Instead of sending one sample cartridge, they sent us SIX cartridges (B/W and color). They also sent an invoice for $384 with a $65.28 shipping charge for a total of $449.28. They called again the next day to see if we received the cartridges and when asked about the invoice we had received, they immediately became argumentative over the phone about the invoice and said repeatedly, "We never said that the ink was free." They offered to play the recording of the initial phone call to confirm that the ink was not free and that the invoice was valid. The whole interaction felt scammy, and it escalated incredibly quickly.

We requested that they not send any more ink to us, both over the phone and via a letter in response to the mailed invoice. So far (a few months later), we haven't received any more mail or phone calls from the company, thank goodness. I hope they don't start up with us again, as other reports here, on their Google Business page, and on their BBB profile suggest that their company also has a history of harassing "customers" about paying the invoice and will even send unrequested ink to rack up a larger bill. STAY AWAY!

My understanding is that all of these business practices violate the FTC Telemarketing Sales Rule and the Unordered Merchandise Statute, and that this is a common scam:
https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/blog/2017/07/billed-office￾supplies-you-...

Boss made the mistake of signing up with them. Then we realized we could get the ink and toner cheaper just about anywhere else, plus they were sending it way too often for our needs. Tried to cancel and they just kept sending it and billing us. Then it was "Oh we sent that on accident, just keep it." But then we'd get a bill for "past due", Boss would pay it to get them out of our hair, and the cycle would start all over again. I managed to catch the most recent delivery and reject it with instructions with the delivery company to reject any further packages from that address so we'll see what happens next.

I don’t know why there’s so many bad reviews on here. I run a vet office and we’ve been using them for over a year now. I usually speak with Kris and he’s helpful to me every time. Answers any questions I have. And their stuff works better than the hp’s we had before. I came in here to give the whole truth because the other reviews don’t seem fair or about the same company. I can’t speak for everyone but my experience personally has been great.

Please beware of these types of calls. As soon as they get your printer model you'll be getting unsolicited toner from them all the time. They do this without your express permission. We have a contract for our printers from the local printer company, and our machines notify the company when we're low on toner. Then and only then will our local, reputable company send a new toner at a great price.

There are WAY too many of these types of businesses out there trying to scam businesses knowing a receptionist might not know not to answer their questions. Please educate all your employees of this type of scam.

I figured I would add my peace in here since I am on the early end of contact with this company "Total Essentials" and have not gotten past a couple of phone calls.

Now, I work in retail/wholesale and manage a warehouse, which includes funneling business calls and scam calls on a daily bases. I first got called yesterday by a gentleman named "Jerry" I believe, asking if we use printers quite a lot and what model the printer was. I immediately knew something was off since they were very quick and up front about wanting to take me on as a customer without much information as well as giving out promises left and right about how great there product was etc.

Luckily, I stopped them from shipping out to my location before doing some "research" on our printing supplies (really, just looking them up) and talking it over with the owner who handles all expenses. They seemed a little taken a back by this, but quickly recovered saying it was no problem and making sure I had their number so I could get back to them to let them know. I mainly just wanted to see if they would try to contact me back and how long it would take them.

They are quite a persistent bunch as I got a call from them this morning. He had all the same lines and pleasantries as if it was scripted. Also, they immediately offered to lower the price by a considerable amount without me trying to haggle. I was first quoted $109 and he told me right off the bat $89 which is just outrageous for anyone to do at the drop of a hat in business. They also made it clear that they want me to try the toner cartridge out to "let it speak for itself" and that they would leave an open invoice until I decided (I can only assume that they are trying to cover themselves for their last encounters with people that have posted previously).

Needless to say, I can tell that this is a scam from my experience and with the confirmation of everyone else's experiences with this company. Stop it as soon as you can, shut them down, try not even to confirm your address with them as that can lead to some issues down the line.

Much as the other reports say here. Total Essentials (TE) made an unsolicited call to our office and made promises that they would let us try out their toner for free. I asked several times that the trial was free and the guy on the line said it would be no problem at all. This was not the case, as you can assume from the other reviews. We were not looking for toner nor did we order any. They sent it to try to see if we liked it.

We had the toner for a few weeks before TE reached out. They were insistent on paying them for the toner, which confused me. The woman on the phone stated that I was wrong, and I did not understand what was explained to me. I told her there isn't much to understand about "free" it's either is or it isn't. Anyway, they began to harass us several times a day, every day via email and phone trying to collect on their "free trial" toner. What I noticed was that everyone who left a review here paid something different. Our toner was invoiced at $109 (which is actually more than what we normally pay).

Anyway, we got fed up with the harassment and forced them to only communicate via email so we could document the interactions. They are included below.

Email 1
"I'm so sorry to hear you used our cartridge but did not like it. The woman I spoke to wasn't sure of the reason but nonetheless it is unfortunate. We understand if you do not want to order anything else and there is no pressure of course. We would be happy to close your account as soon as we receive the payment. I attached your invoice which we have adjusted to 5% off and also waived the shipping and insurance. If you have any questions, please let us know. "

Email 2
"The rep told you this would be on open billing meaning you get to run the cartridge before paying. We do however expect payment once the cartridge has been used. If there is more, you can tell me about the performance of the cartridge as to why you didn't like it I am more than happy to work on a price for you that is fair and reasonable of course. We can start with trying to match the price with your usual vendor. What do you normally pay?"

Email 3
"Unfortunately, not everyone understands the same terms but believe me we have a lot more than 3 customers who ARE happy with our service and the way we do business, we are just not out there asking everyone to write a review to say so. We always try to keep our customers happy, and we did try with you as well. We were willing to adjust the price and make it worth your while to keep and try as agreed but you already had your mind set. With that being said, I have voided out your invoice and you CAN consider this a gift. We hope you like our cartridge and maybe in the future you will be willing to do more business with us. Either way I hope you have a great day. "

Needless to say, don't fall for the trap. If they are sending you product without prior payment and then they try to black mail you into paying, don't. They play on your wanting to be honest and decent. If you get caught in their trap. Play the long game. They have a cost of doing business too so make them pay for their lack of ethics. Stand up to fraudsters. You cannot be charged for things sent to you that you didn't order and especially without payment. It literally is a gift.

Could you provide the email they contacted you from? I am try to get ahold of them because they are senselessly sending toner to my work place in error. I did the website contact and called their number they have on their website with no response. TIA

Our business received an unsolicited call from one of the salespeople at Total Essentials who offered us a promotional (free of charge) cartridge. We accepted the offer in good faith and received the product a few days later. After a few days, the salesman calls us back demanding pay for the "free" cartridge which we paid for giving him the benefit of doubt for the confusion with the free trial run.

Lo and behold, three more unrequested cartridges show up at our door a week later as well as invoices for three more (two invoices for six cartridges all together). I called their number and a lady tried to convince me that they are an honest business but when I brought up several example of the same behavior based on the other reviews, she became noticeably nervous and said that she will call me back after straightening out the issue. It is definitely a scam! Be on alert!

Very similar experience to everyone else, he offers a free trial toner and promises great quality and prices. Trial toner didn't work for us and we wanted to send it back but instead got a bill for way more than normal cost. We paid the bill and requested to close the account. Soon after we received 3 more toners despite never asking for them and specifically saying we didn't want to continue working with them. Trying to send these back has been a nightmare, we are now paying the cost to send them back out of our own pocket and his friendly demeanor has turned into incredibly rude and immature behavior. We were also given a gift card for starting business with them but it was demanded back after we cancelled and told we would be invoiced for it if it wasn't returned. DO NOT give them a chance, it will cost you in the end.

The rep will ask if they can send you ink toner to try out at no cost. Even if you decline their offer they will send it anyway. Months later you will receive a invoice that charges you for their way overpriced toner as well as very expensive shipping and insurance. Our company was changed $1,167.00 for 3 toners plus $198.39 for shipping. When the rep called and asked for the invoice to be paid I requested a mailing label be forwarded to me so I can send the toner back. I'm still waiting for that label to be sent.

You don't even want to work at this place the owner is losing his mind tricking people into taking products is getting old and there are too many ways to order your supplies online from reputable companies I refused to mislead these people and was let go for not being able to take advantage of people what a [censored] Mike is if that's even his REAL name since he recommended employees to use a fake name this company is fraudulent

Just like Marty said:
Got a call asking for printer model. They said they can get me a better deal on toner and would send me one, and if I like it and it saves me money, to send them a check and order more. I specifically asked "If I don't like it, do I have to pay for it?" And he insisted that I would not. I received the toner in the mail, and have not used it. I got an invoice for over $127.33 today. I did not order anything.

I also got a call offering me a "free" ink toner to try out. I specifically asked if it was free and if there was any obligation to which multiple times I was told that it was a free gift just "to get their foot in the door" for future business. I received the toner in the mail, it is still in the box unused, and a week later I received an invoice for almost $300.00. This toner was a free gift.
