Type of a scam CryptoCurrency
FaceBook and offered to donate .08 bitcoin. I sent him my crypto wallet address and he stated he
was unable to send to the wallet. He suggested I create an account on the platform he was using
and then he could transfer the btc to my account. Setting up the account required a photo of my
driving license and a photo of me. After setting up the account of course they needed to verify it
by having me deposit an amount of btc. After meeting that requirement and attempting to
withdraw the funds I get an error message stating the following.
The website states: "To withdraw your funds you need to make an insurance payment, because you
are from a high-risk of illegal financial transaction country, United States. This insurance payment
will be refunded after 14 days to your account, if you have no complaints. This rule is introduced
according to European law and it is written in User Agreement (13.2). The amount of insurance is
0.02 BTC or equivalent in another cryptocurrency."
They have become unresponsive and if they do respond it's just to let me know I have to send
them more money. I believe they may be tied to the Bankman-Fried people who steal money via
Ponzi schemes. They do not have any contact information listed. There is not address, phone
number, or email listed anywhere and the only contact method is an online chat that takes from 2-
4 hours to respond. I don't usually go for this type of transaction but I was caught up in the
benevolence of charity and did not think anything criminal would happen.
