I made the mistake of funding the trading account with a self-directed IRA and lost a great portion of it.
Six years later, half of the money is still sitting there earning zero and still paying custodian fees. I cannot take it out is because my taxes will go through the roof if I cash out.
While throwing in the trash their training materials I found the list containing the phone number of those students that were in my class and I contacted some of them. Everyone lost money and they do not do trading anymore.
In February 2020, the Federal Trade Commission sued Online Trading Academy and they hired a famous lawyer to defend them. As a settlement I received only a little over $100.
Ever wondered why all the reviews are five stars? Here is what they do–at the completion of the course, they ask you to complete and sign an evaluation sheet. The student advisor named Ed (I think) said, “ If you give us a five-star review, I will give you the workspaces that I personally use.” Off course, everybody says yes because at that point they do not know any better.
If the FTC would contact the same students three years later and ask them to complete the same evaluation, most of the five-stars will be only one-star.
One more thing, you cannot login to OTA and post a review like you do with most legitimate businesses. That is why the negative reviews and complains are done through external websites only. What does that tell you?
I chose to put in the trash all their training material, booklets and handouts instead of giving them for free to someone because I did not want to ruin their retirement.
Every time that I think about Online Trading Academy my blood boils!
