Transcriptionist Job Scam Reports & Reviews (7)

I received a very similar email from a Nate Quist of Valiente Mott Injury Attorneys telling me my resume was found on Indeed, LinkedIn and Ziprecruiter for Salt Book Publishing. I thought it was odd that an injury attorney is working on behalf of a publishing company. He also said "your resume was gotten via..." which sent up a red flag as well. I researched the publishing company and it seemed legit so I contacted "Scott Musser" but intentionally sent a vague email. I did not attach my resume (it has personal contact information on it) or tell him anything about myself other than who contacted me and I was interested in additional information regarding the position and the job. He responded almost immediately telling me he thought I would be a good fit --- with NO information about my experience and a to-good-to-be-true hourly wage of $40 and legitimate information about the company that can be verified on their website. Luckily I chose to do some more research and found this page to verify my gut was right!
Red flags: 1. Anyone working on behalf of a hiring manager - its their job to find people, why have someone else doing it? 2. My resume is not uploaded to ALL of the websites listed 3. Injury attorney working for a hiring manager for a publishing company 4. grammar errors in message 5. Fast response 6. telling me I would be a good fit and offering an interview with NO information about my experience. 7. Too good to be true offer 8. Publishing company in the UK looking for a transcriptionist in America (Accents are different and can make transcribing more difficult and cause accuracy issues)
These guys are getting smarter, but the red flags are still there. Please be careful and NEVER give out your personal information.

Received a text from “Mr. Howard Waisglass” from Salt Book Publishing stating that they received my application for a Transcriptionist for $40/hr and to reach out to hiring manager “Richard Morin” via Skype. Went through the process, a text interview, and was told I’d hear back the next day at 8 to 10am CST. Was “hired” and was told to look for my employment letter. Seemed too good to be true (I have no experience with transcriptions, and $40/hr is nearly always too good to be true, even with experience). I checked my spam folder for the hiring email regardless, and found an email from 8 days prior from “Luis Martinez”, telling me to reach out to the same Richard Morin with my information… except this time “Richard” worked for a different company - Wolfpack Publishing.

This is when I was able to find this website and other people’s experience with this supposed Richard Morin. Hopefully this can help you all.

Last week I went onto Linkedin to message Richard Morin that his profile, likeness and business experience was being used. The profile clearly matched employment information (I wish I would've screenshot then) but when I clicked on it this morning it is now updated to remove all information about RJ Parker Publishing and now lists Wolfpack Publishing as his employment. So be warned about this newest scam in the works apparently.

Changed profile again, hoping to stop this guy from finding any more victims.

As the previous person just stated, I just competed the first round of interviewing with this company via Microsoft Team meets. I was given the exact same script as this previous victim practically verbatim. [email protected]. They have told me to log in tomorrow at 8am cst to see if I’ve been accepted to the company. I will see if the process is the same as the previous persons experience and not follow through with it. I was really excited to about this job opportunity since it fit everything I was looking towards. What’s a shame.

Same exact thing just happened to me. I did an extensive search to verify but unfortunately this site didn't appear until well after the process was started. I wish my search would have landed me on this site sooner. Would have saved a ton of issues.

I was initially contacted via email by Janyce Keiko. "Attorney at Law" Torrance, CA 90501 I posted my resume online in hope of acquiring a remote position as a transcriptionist. Her email states that there was a job opening in one of their affiliated firms, RJ PARKER PUBLISHING, as a transcriptionist. It stated that they were "Urgently hiring" They claimed to have gotten my resume via a candidate search on indeed, LinkedIn, we work remotely or zip recruiter. This made sense as I posted my resume directly to "weworkremotely.com" a couple of days prior. I was instructed to contact the hiring manager Howard Jaap via email: [email protected]. Upon contacting Mr. Jaap, I was instructed to download skype to connect and complete an interview. I was under the assumption this would be a video interview, but it was all done via messaging which I did think was odd. I completed the interview process and was told that my interview answers would be forwarded to HR and that I needed to be back online between 8am and 10am the next morning to receive my interview results. When I got online, I was told that due to my experience, I had gotten the job. Again, I thought this was odd because I made it clear that I had little experience. But they emailed me a job offer and told me to be sure to read over it carefully. Once I accepted the position, I was sent hiring paperwork via email. I received an I-9, direct deposit paperwork and several other official documents to complete. Once this was completed, I was told that they would be sending me a check to remote deposit to purchase specific equipment to perform my job remotely. When I asked why they wouldn't just purchase the equipment and have it sent to me, I was told that the funds came from a different company, so the check would be emailed to me. Upon receiving the check for $2450.00, I was told to deposit it via mobile deposit. At this point, I contacted my bank, showed them the check and they verified that it was a fraudulent check. I sent these people my bank account and routing number, my ss#, and a copy of my driver's license. I have since closed my bank account and put a freeze on my credit. They were unable to get any money from me directly, but my bank stated that this has happened in the past and it is a scam. These companies have you deposit the funds, buy the equipment, and then the check bounces and you are out the funds. When I told Howard Jaap that I knew this was a scam, I never heard back from him again. Go with your gut from the beginning. I wish I had. This could have been much worse.
