Type of a scam Tech Support
It began in Jan 2021 following my enquiry regarding improving the performance of my lap top. I received a phone call from a technician claiming to represent Techienerds LLC based in Pennsylvania. I allowed him access to my lap top to assess the situation. The 5 year package cost $449.89US. I requested confirmation of the details by email [email protected] & received a response from an unidentified person showing an address at Cinnaminson, NJ, USA confirming the 5 year security package.
In August 2021 I received a phone call from the same technician claiming that my network was compromised & it was necessary to re-examine my lap top. Restoration of my security required further payment of $310.89.
In November they called to inform that we had been hacked & it was vital to install further software (Rogue $1480, Defender $659). In order to repay us $3000 they claimed that the cost of a Canada/USA tax transfer was $1499.
This was followed by a claim that they had installed the incorrect software & then offered to repay all our payments if we paid $10,000 which was reduced to $1000 after countless phone conversations.
At this time I cancelled my credit card which triggered a series of phone calls (1-442-252-8090: 1-702-978-6202; 1-515-758-5180: 1-876-432-5460) plus some with no ID. I did not respond to these calls. Other questionable email addresses include, Beauty Bar@ gmail.com; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]
Names associated with these transactions included James, Kevin, David & a Mr Miller !!!.Their accents were not indicative of fluent English speakers.
The name of Techienerds LLC, NJ was not found in a search of Cinnaminson ,NJ , USA.
I made several errors of judgement & it is highly unlikely that I will receive restitution of the ~$3000 which I have to accept. However, I hope that this serves as a warning to others.
