Two men came to our home and said they had 50-75 yds of crushed blacktop they would do our driveway for a reduced price of $12./yd. Originally $36./yd. This should have been a big RED flag here, but we were very vulnerable and grew up in a time when your word was good. After thinking about it, we decided to let them do it, however that 50-75 yds grew into 542 yards at the end, so imagine our shock when they told us what we owed. We live on social security and a small pension. We managed to scrape up enough money to pay them which was $2500. check and $4100. in cash. It makes me sick to my stomach to think we were scammed. The pavement isn't thick enough to keep grass growing up in it as if no blacktop was there and you can blow it away using an residential blower. They are very professional. The main person looks to be in his late twenties and an elderly man that does the work. Another person, I never seen his face, always his back. They worked all of 2 hours, maybe. The work is very shabby. The letterhead they used to write on was Triple AAA Construction out of Theodore and another sheet that says Black Velvet Asphalt with no address on this one. I have tried calling Triple AAA and there is no such place in Theodore and if you try Black Velvet you get Mobile Asphalt. I don't know if they are affiliated with them or not. The main person who done all the TALKING left his telephone # but have tried for 2 weeks and can't reach him. After a couple days after they pretended to do the driveway, I heard on Channel 10, WALA, Mobile that there was a scam going around. This is when my suspicions were confirmed that we had been scammed. I would like for these people to be caught and pay for what they are doing before they scam other people especially the elderly, like me, living from month to month on a small limited income.
