I received a phone call from out of the city that informed me that my electricity was due to be disconnected. I was given a number for a billing department to avoid disconnection. It was obviously a scam and just to be sure, I checked with the Tucson Electric Power company to make sure and reported it to their fraud department.

"Anonymous Call" - Recorded voice saying they are TEP & our electric would be shut off in an hour.

A Tucson Electric Power Co impersonator called yesterday threatening to shut off the power to the home if $1,500 was not received within 30 minutes. The caller said he could extend shutting off the power for an additional 30 minutes if we could get to the local Frys foods located at Speedway/Pantano in Tucson Ariz. where we would purchase 3 $500 green dot Master Cards. He said the $1.95 activation fee would be reimbursed by TEP if receipts were produced. He said to either go to the TEP main facility to pay with the cards in person or return his call with the numbers on the green dot MCs. It was the perfect storm, busy at work, grandkids at the home where he was threatening to shut off power on the hottest day of the year. The "gent" seemed to have some PII and the phone he called from reflected TEPs primary number. Too, the call back number he gave us 520.391.2316 defaults to a "hijacked" TEP voicemail (including the words, this call may be monitored for quality purposes). Once I got cold feet the caller became abusive and very vulgar, seemingly rehearsed for a shock effect. Unfortunately, they DID get my entire SSN which I've since blocked.

Huge SCAM! #scamalert

I got a call on my business phone number from someone saying they are calling from Tucson Electric Power (TEP) telling me to unplug all of my electrical devises because my power is going to be shut off at the meter and they didn’t want my electronics to get damaged! The phone number they gave me to call to clear my account is 520-391-2316 #5203912316 !

My first call was a busy signal.... then my second call someone answered “TEP” how can I help you? I started to ask questions and I told them I thought someone was scamming with this phone number...... the call was immediately disconnected and I got a busy signal every other time I called! For the record.... my electric bill is not past due and the current balance isn’t even due until the end of this month! #beware #tepscam #tucson #localphonenumber #hitshome
