So I signed a "Pre-employment" contract stating that I would be paid for my work done over the course of the pre-employment period and this will serve as a probationary period and if I didn't meet the timely requests I would not be selected. So fast forward two weeks, I have put in a few hours of assessment work. At this point I was supposed to be getting my first "real" project as an assessment from a Sr. Project Manager. I was supposed to hear from him on a Monday, but I did not. Figured he was busy. I emailed my point of contact stating I had not herd from said project manager and about an hour later I got a message from the project manager. Essentially my first task was to use a "company" bank account to pay off my credit card balances, Then I would use my credit cards to procure office equipment from sources and "try and get the best price". Unsure of what this really meant and if I was reading correctly I called the project manager. I got a voicemail. I left a message and tried again a bit later.Voicemail again. So i called my original point of contact and notices something weird. The voices of these two men sounds very similar. I called the project manager again and then the original point of contact. I confirmed my suspicions, the voices were EXACTLY the same person.
I started to dig in bu first going to their website. I googled their address and their address is the same address as UBS- the United Bank of Switzerland. This is a HUGE financial company, it didn't add up. I then looked at all the emails I received from the "employees" and their grammar and English just seemed to be off. So I looked at the assessments that I received and searched for the information. Turns out, the reading and the text was taken verbatim from a free online project management course- including the assessment questions. Only difference was they used their home baked letterhead.
I was so embarrassed once i put all of this together. My wife and I were so pumped because it looked like it was going well and that it was too goo to be true. Turns out it was. I figure myself to b e smart person working in the tech industry and have a Masters degree. These scammers now are going to great lengths to dupe even people like me. Be warned everyone!
