I received a letter in the mail, which looked legitimate. I was then contacted by someone stating they worked with HUD, and due to excess funds, they are reaching out to homeowners who are behind in their mortgage; they can have $70,000 reduced from their mortgage and reduce the interest rate to 2.9 % for the next 5 years. I looked up the website, and it looks legitimate. They said we had to pay them for their services and an appraisal of our home. After we looked up the website, as I stated, it looked legitimate, and we signed their paperwork and sent them a check. we didn't hear back from them, and all of a sudden, their phone number didn't work.

A Final Notice for the cares-act economic Stimulus plan was sent to me. Shows a picture of my state on it but, the phone calls I receive are coming from California. The Final Notice has no return address on it and the website to log into has my first name part of last name and Caresactreliefprogram.com. I know I have not received any previous notice about this. It seems it could be legit until I was instructed to make two payments of $985.00 each.
