I was contacted through mail regarding an opportunity to lower my monthly mortgage payment as well as my interest rate on my mortgage. After going through the initial process, I was told that to move forward with the process in full I would need to pay in advanced. After doing some research, I learned that it is illegal in Wisconsin (where I live) for a company to request payment regarding mortgage relief prior to presenting the homeowner with an offer of a lowered rate from the mortgage lender. After confronting the company about this, they ceased contact.
