Today I received a "tracking number" from the company they said was responsible for shipping and was told I now owed $399.99 for a crate rental or $999.99 to purchase a crate. The shipping company said an air conditioned crate was necessary to travel with the animal. When I called the "shipping" company, I was directed to a Google number and was called back with a number from Cameroon.
I then texted the kitten rescue and was told they could assure they had worked with the company before and that they were trustworthy. But when I asked the rescue for a full refund, the phone number was disconnected.
I went to the rescue's FB page and found that they changed the phone number and address of the rescue on there as well. I also discovered that they changed the name of their FB page in September and found posts about this rescue being a scam. I asked for a full refund but the people deleted the phone number and I have no way of getting in contact. Images from the website are from various rescues in the United States and the photos of the vets and staff at the rescue are images of vets from around the world (discovered through reverse image search.) The cat I expressed interest in was from Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles and photos of those volunteers were used as the header for the FB page.
I contacted Venmo immediately but was told there was nothing that could be done because the money had already been transferred out of Venmo by the receiver.
