Contacted my 90 y.o. mother by pretending to be a Facebook friend of hers: same name and user pic. She didn't notice that she had two friends with the same name and profile after the scammer spoofed her real friend. (Seems to have accepted "his" friend request twice.) He claimed that he got a ton of money from UN (both her friend and my mother are refugees) and when FedEx delivered it he noticed her name on the list of beneficiaries. She was interested so "he" put her in touch with someone else on Messenger asking for personal info so they could send the money. She gave her physical address, cell phone number, monthly income, age, gender and whether she wanted cash or a check. They wanted a selfie with her holding two fingers up. She asked me how to do that which is how I came in. It was an obvious scam, as I confirmed when I saw she had two friends with same name. While we were talking on the phone they (the "friend" and the woman who was "helping" her via Messenger) became more and more insistent on her finishing the "sign-up." She let me log into her FB account and I blocked and reported them. (Then she emailed her real friend who confirmed it was a scam.) Don't know what the deal with the two fingers was.
