Was working on home computer using Internet Explorer. Suddenly, screen went Blue with ERROR CODE message about DLL and a register number. Then an overlay page appeared for help with phone number 855-781-8935. Called the phone number, talked with Trey McNealy. Identified company as United PC Pros in Charlotte N.C. as a Microsoft contractor support company. Trey provided link to access our PC and opened System Information/Software Environment/Windows Error Reporting which revealed long list of errors system the computer had been purchased 4-5 months ago. Trey identified that we did not have an Anti-Virus software which was correct. Suggested we take computer to Best Buy for OTR (one time repair) and get Anti-Virus software or we could have their tech clean up system and install their Defender Pro for a one time fee of $199. We are at a Senior Living community and ask Trey to install their anti-virus system. Provided Credit Card number information, then waited over 40 minutes for tech to install software. No install ever occurred. Finally powered down computer and talked with friend who said we had been SCAMMED. Making report to possibly help others.

Caller posing to be from "United PC Pros" said he was calling me to conduct a manual upgrade to my computer. He knew my first name. In the beginning of the phone call, I asked why his phone sounded so scratchy, and if his co. needed to do an upgrade to my computer, why wasn't it done automatically through an automatic upgrade instead of a "manual" upgrade. I told him I didn't recognize the name of the company. He covered that up by saying his company had bought out the previous anti-malware or anti-virus company I was using.... I ended up hanging up on him. The call came from 760.938.5506. I am getting bad reports off the internet that it's a scam, and he would have asked for personal information.
