I have tried to get my money back from their website, but they have extensive terms of service claiming they are in the right, which they just keep pointing me to. I have also reported them to my credit card company.
After I understood they weren't AT&T I logged into AT&T and unlocked my phone for free there. Now they are asking for proof that I unlocked it myself. The details involve a request ID that they could possibly use to credibly claim to AT&T that they are me, so I will not give that to them.
DirectUnlocks collected my phone's IMEI, AT&T PIN code (I think), user name, and other information. I don't recall all that they asked for.
Since unlocking is a service provided by network operators such as AT&T, and is free, unless there is a contract that needs to be first paid up, I frankly don't see a legal reason for DirectUnlocks to exist at all.
