An email was sent to my husband's email that identified themselves as Updater. This was advertised as a service for people moving. It said it is a one-stop shop for getting all utilities, cable, and internet set up. Our realtor's company, John L. Scott, falsely sent it to us. When I notified my realtor of this, she shared that John L. Scott did not share any information with this company from their clients. When I called the number, a man named William with an Indian accent answered. He began explaining the details of Century Link and DirectTV's services. I even called my husband to help decide on the channels we wanted. He then asked me to give my birthdate and SS # so that I could verify any previous balances with these companies. I did share this information. When the credit check would not go through, this is when things started to get "sketchy". We currently have a fraud alert on our account. When I shared this information, he said he would need to check with his credit department to authorize us to set up the service further. After about 10 minutes on hold, I started checking on this company. There have been about ten complaints about this being a scam. I hung up and then he called my husband's number and said he would call me back. I did not accept the call, so I immediately blocked his number and reported it as junk. This company is targeting people who are in the moving process. I am distraught and hope my identity will not be stolen. I have frozen all our credit reports and have left a fraud alert on our accounts. We have also notified our bank (Chase) of this scam. Please let me know what else I can do to protect my information. This seemed very legit since it came from our realtor.
