This person told me he had a package to deliver with UPS that I would need to sign for and asked me to get a pen to take down the tracking info. I am expecting a relatively expensive package in the next few days, so I took the tracking number. Then I knew for sure it was a scam, as he told me this was the tracking, "Your initial, 00152988535uswinner. He literally said, "your initial".
I told him I had not registered to win anything and that this was obviosly a scam. He told me that it was from Publishers Clearing House, and again, I said no way, I've never registered. Then, he tells me when you shop at Walmart, Walgreens, KMart, etc. you get points and are registered that way. I knew he was lying but acted like I'd believe him to get more information and find out what he wanted.
He said he was just the UPS driver and needed to know if I'd be home in an hour and a half to sign for the package. I said I would in case it was someone hoping to find an empty house to rob.
Then he told me to call the GM of Publishers Clearing House, a Mr. Bill Grayan or something (no spelling of course) at 876-460-9013 extention 5. I looked up this number and the name David Miller, and there are tons of reports of the same thing.
It's very concerning that they ask if you're home to me. I saw others have reported the same thing related to this David Miller person. He never asked me for any information though, not even my name, so the fact that all he asked was if I was home was more than a little creepy. I have a feeling that once he realized I was not falling for it he was hoping I'd call this other number and then whoever answered would try to get me to give them money or info, but I'm obviously not calling them.
They need to be stopped. This is a huge invasion of privacy, scary, and infuriating.
