I did not apply for a loan from this company but overnight I received two emails from them. They were asking me to confirm my email address and said they needed my Social Security Number to proceed. I had never been to their site, asked for a loan or completed any information whatsoever.

The email read:

We received your inquiry on www.upstart.com and need some additional information to complete your request. Please log into your Upstart Account through www.upstart.com/login and provide your social security number so that we may process your request.

This came in at 0200 my time and I had done nothing to solicit this. Not sure where they got my email but I notice they used a variant of my email that I use for junk mail and "throwaway" accounts. They must have purchased it from somewhere.

This is a clear breach of GDPR / Privacy rules here in Europe.

They need to be investigated and consumers made aware of this company.
