SCAM alert for the following:
uptowncarrier.com
[email protected]
[email protected]

My experience is the same as others here. In my particular situation, the FB listing was for a Yamaha baby grand piano listed by a Lorelei Ward. I checked out her profile before chatting her and it was new, but this isn't an automatic red flag. In my prolific marketplace purchasing experience many people, women especially, will create accounts just for marketplace so that they can safely hide their identities. Lorelei told me she had listed the piano for her cousin and provided the cousin's email address to talk to directly. I emailed immediately after receipt and "Dr. Melissa" replied within 10 minutes. She gave me the same spiel that her husband had passed and he was the one that played. Because she was moving to a smaller place, she needed to rehome the piano and just wanted it to go to a good home. She even asked I send photos of it once it was delivered.

The next step was to arrange delivery. She said she had already initiated the move with the rest of her belongings and would reach out to have the final delivery postponed and rerouted. Once she got back to me (within minutes) that it was possible, she sent me all the info I needed to contact them. The communication with the "moving company" was easy and fast... a little too fast. They provided me quotes within 14 minutes. This should have been enough for me to question the legitimacy. I manage freight for my company and over the course of many years, I have never gotten a shipping quote that quickly. But, this was moving - not exactly the same realm I work in - and they already had the goods, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. It wasn't until they asked me how I would like to pay "in order to generate the invoice" that my sirens went off. The payment options they provided were: Google Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo, Zelle, and Cash App. Not tradition B2B payment options and certainly odd for a company that handles ocean freight shipments. That's when I went to google to do some fact checking. Thankfully many people had already shared their experience and I was able to walk away relatively unscathed - before I transferred any money.

Unfortunately, I was recently the subject of an attempted scam on a different online platform. Looking back, maybe that was a blessing in disguise because I honestly don't know if I would have had the same level of skepticism without that recent memory. It's wild out there y'all. Take care!

I have the same exact experience! The fb lady is now called Laura Campbell. She then asked me to email her cousin "Yes the ad is for my cousin. Please kindly send her a message to [email protected] so she can tell you more about it. Her name is Sophie. Thanks" I then emailed her cousin and same exact thing, she replied in minutes! With the reroute story and having to contact the moving company to ship it to my address and to the take a picture of it in my home. I immediately did my due diligence and did not click on the link she sent me nor emailed the so called "shipping company". I saw this article and others confirming it was a scam. Thank you all! God bless y'all and safe searching out there!

Another Facebook marketplace Scam for a free yamaha baby grand piano, then they try to get a moving company to deliver it for a fee.
No piano will ever come!

website # 205-563-0174

I was told that they are giving away a baby grand piano because there was a husband death and family and it did not seem right to sell the piano so. Dr milissa is a fake. BEWARE ! Website looks to be hosted in the czech republic.

I saw an ad on Facebook for a free motorhome, almost identical to the ad for the piano, same moving company. Went to the website she gave me for the moving company, website seemed off. So I googled it and found this place. Just goes to show that if it sounds too good to be true it is. Ty for saving me grief and money! It's a motorhome scam now! Think the feds would do something about this...

I came across a Facebook listing for this beautiful baby grand piano. My story is the same as others above except I fell for it. I received the same exact emails as others from a Dr. Milissa saying she was giving away her late husbands piano. Please don’t fall for them. Unfortunately I paid them the $790 for the moving company but when they asked for money later on saying it was a “interstate tax” that they had previously missed, I started digging and found this website with similar stories.

I was almost scammed on 2/23/24 for the free baby grand piano. The lady has change her name today. Her last message to me via an email said I just needed to contact the moving company and I saw the posts from previous people who had responded to her ad. She has removed the ad from Facebook marketplace and deleted her email and also my conversations with her. Good riddance

I was definitely full-on scammed. Called my husband telling him how excited I was and had emailed with her (Dr. Milissa) multiple times. Same exact emails as others have posted! Same pictures, same names!
I wish there were a way to take this fake website down. Thankfully, I didn’t give them any money or info, but I hope that no one else gets hurt by them. How awful of these people!

Same experience last night. Excited to contact the moving company but felt the website was odd. Research led me here.

"Thanks for the response. I got through to the movers now in order to let them know they will move the piano back.. All you need to do now is to contact them and make new arrangements as regards to the rerouting process. I also would like you to take some pictures when it arrives at your house and send them..

All you have to do is go to their website at Uptowncarrier.com , You will see a chat icon at the bottom of their website, You will send a message to them via their live chat to chat with one of their agents.

The rep said you should present this Referral ID TOPS87741OPO to initiate a reroute.. Let them know Dr. Milissa referred you and give me feedback."

You can as well reach out to them via their email… [email protected] they reply their mail faster

Thanks.

Hi

How are you doing?. the ''Baby Grand Piano'' used to be owned and played by my husband who is now deceased and it was last tuned November last year before he passed, I'm almost done moving my properties and I don't think my husband will be happy if I sell his piano, at the same time I'm not happy seeing it around because of less storage i have in my new house, so I'm hoping to give it out to someone who is a passionate lover of the instrument. The first lady who I thought was going to get it didn't show up at she promised and I wasn't going to leave it alone in an empty house.. it's currently going to be with the movers I employed to move my properties from my house.. which is on the move.. if you really don't mind making new arrangements with the movers, I can attempt to get in touch with them to reroute it, this should not attract too many charges since the distance can be recovered within a day or 2. do let me know if you wish that I get through to the movers. Just so you know I'm not giving out a scrap or a waste. It’s in good shape.

Thanks,

Dr. Milissa

She then emailed me to contact their shipper Uptown Carrier which when researched looked like a scam(in addition to the email from Drmilissa) so I pursued further. Dr milissa sent the below email:

The rep said you should present this Referral ID TOPS87741OPO to initiate a reroute.. Let them know Dr. Milissa referred you and give me feedback.

Calling that number 'while hiding your calling from number' goes to voicemail of course, so I chatted as instructed and got "David" who texted in erroneous grammar. He provided a picture of a packaged up grand piano. in a shipping container asking me if I wanted to reroute it. I asked if I could have my shipper pick it up, he said no: and asked for my address to calculate shipping costs. I gave a phony physical address. The prices to ship ranged from $998 for 3 day delivery for Fresno CA to Massachusetts, $880 for 5 day and $790 for 7 day... including set up. He sent an invoice to my email and stated I'd have to pay by Zelle. I stated I dont have or use Zelle so I'd pay cash or certified bank check. He said they dont work that way and will have to cancel the invoice. I then said that's very unfortunate AND very unfortunate for him as I have all his info, IP address, location, the scam reviews all over the internet for Uptown Carrier and the piano scam, he made a very grave mistake and its an attempted felony. He immediately ended the chat. How do these vermin sleep at night? Ill be reporting to my local police, Fresno police, the BBB, and Consumer Affairs.

Same experience as identified in reports published here. Seemed too good to be true and upon researching the carrier decided that it was a scam. The moving company doesn't accept credit cards but online cash apps. Nice job but they made some glaring errors. Buyer beware! Nothing is for free. Almost got taken to the tune of $700. facebook marketplace is major scam opportunity for many.

IT'S ALL A SCAM
I was told that they are giving away a baby grand piano because there was a dead end of family and it did not seem right to sell the piano so. They are giving it after investigation. I saw a article with the same story speaking to Andrew at uptowncarrier Stating that Delivery service will he 790 bucks. After that I went to go find the post and saw it was taken down and I was blocked from the person trying to give it away.

- Temple, TX, USA

Ad in Facebook for a free baby grand piano that was shared with me through our piano teacher. The we’re using the name of an individual “Dr Pamela Mason” out of Fresno california who sent the email below and said that all we needed to do was contact the moving company and gave the reference number and we would just need to pay for shipping. I contacted the company through the website with the reference number and they offered three options of shipping 760 up to 900ish with insurance. When I asked if the piano was in their possession “Andrew” said yes it was in the warehouse and sent a picture (below). I googled pictures of baby grand pianos shipping and the one below came up and was the exact picture he gave me. I sent the picture to live chat Andrew and said it looks just like the one on the internet and the online chat was immediately ended as they had cut it off. Unfortunately I had already given our address to assess shipping costs

I had similar experience over the past few days. It is a scam. Same emails and pictures sent were sent to me by Dr. Milisa and Uptown Carrier. The FB marketplace ad originated from Louise Marrow.
