I am about to enter graduate school so I've been looking for a second job that will fit my schedule. I then went on Upwork, which is a platform for freelance jobs, and applied for a remote position for Healthcare Case Coordinator. I was connected to this person named Kevin TStep. He told me to join Microsoft Teams where I would be directed to the company's HR Operations Manager, named Sarah Norris. The interview was done via text which threw me off but I didn't think too much at the time as I was needing the job. Of course, I was offered the position immediately. They sent me a contract letter stating they would provide the equipments through their reliable vendor (Macbook Pro, HP Officejet Printer, Enterprise software, Time tracker Software), along with a procurement e-paycheck of $2,720. I was told to deposit the check immediately and to transfer that amount to the vendor under the name Joanna Kimberly once the funds were available in my bank account. As someone who never had experience working remotely before, I had no suspicion and thought this was a way of their business. As soon as the payment was transferred, the check bounced back. I contacted the bank and they informed me the check was a counterfeit. However, Sarah said the system flagged the check because I never deposited e-checks before, which was true so I didn't suspect much. She issued me a replacement check, then later the vendor contacted saying they inadvertently left out shipping fee and setup fee, which cost another $1,610. Sarah reassured me to not worry because the accounts department had issued another e-check to cover the balance. Again, after the funds made available, I transferred $1,610 to Joanna Kimberly, and of course the e-check bounced back. Didn't stop there, Sarah said she found safety working with me so she asked to send another $4,330 to the vendor on behalf of the company, with the reason the company hired another person for customer service rep position, and that it was more convenient to have me send money to the vendor. I realized it was a scam at this point so I stopped and called my bank right away to dispute the transfer, however no guarantee I can get my money back. In the end, Sarah never contacted me back and I lost a total of $4,330 of my hard earned money, I've been saving up for grad school to cover living expenses and loans I'm about to be in.

The job was posted on Upwork as a Virtual Assistant for an architecture firm. The Job entailed researching items about an architectural firm, including supplies, equipment, furniture, and tools. Also, it included researching airfare, hotels, and meeting venues. The Address of Crystal Architecture was 1253 S. Beretania Street, Suite 1501, Honolulu, HI 96814 (808) 216-9956 http://www.dumoreconstruction.com. The address where the fraudulent check came from was Markmill, LLC, 1005 Silver Sands Drive, San Antonio, TX 78216. The cell phone numbers I received the calls from were 773-410-8744 and 331-275-8230. I received an employment letter from Harry Goodman. The scam was for me to take a check to the bank deposit it through ATM and send them a picture of the deposit slip. Then they would have my account information to withdraw money from my account. Both cell phones come from the Aurora (Chicago Area). The amount of the check was more than I assumed would be coming over $5000.00.

They posted a job on Upwork.com.

I went through what I thought was a legitimate interview. Upon signing a hiring page, they sent me 2k to pay a vendor for work equipment. 400.00 went into my bank account immediately and the remaining 1600 will take 2 days to go in. But in the meantime, they told me to pay the vendor for equipment through pay pal or Venmo. When the payment wouldn't process because they are international (I found out) they told me to buy a gift card for 400 to send to them. Now I am assuming at any point they are going to cancel the check they gave me, so I am out 400. I literally could cry.

Applied to a job on upwork. A little too easy to be accepted, and we only communicated through Skype. Like others experienced, they attempted to send me a check with confirmation.
