They called me on my cell phone and stated that they were from the U.S. Federal Grants and Treasury Department and were awarding me a grant for $9,000. They instructed me that I was receiving the grant because I pay my taxes on time and I have not had a criminal record in the past 6 months. The lady preceded to ask me how I would like to receive the money and gave me the option of providing my bank account number, Western Union, on a prepaid credit card. I chose Western Union because I am familiar with their policies and procedures so the lady then gave me an ID# MN143 and provided #202-780-9346 and stated that I have to call that number as soon as I am finished speaking with her. I basically had her repeat the information and what I was being awarded so I could write it down and then I hung up the phone and called the number provided. Another lady answered (both Hispanic speaking women) and she was going to instruct me on how to receive the Western Union. She began by telling me I needed to go to a Western Union as soon as possible and register my name and provide $280 as a security deposit so that I could get the $9,000. At that point I told her that I used to work at a bank and we provided the service of Western Union and that is certainly not what someone needs to do in order to receive funds that someone else is sending them. The lady said, "Fine then! Goodbye! And, don't ever call this number back again!"
