I received a call with a recorded message saying they were the US Marshal. It said that they need to contact me to ask some questions but didn't specify why. It asked me to press a number to continue but I hung up. The call was from Wisconsin and when I tried to call it back, it said I could not be connected.

I received a call from the U.S. Marshal's phone number from an officer stating I was being investigated for a crime. They identified themselves as officers, provided badge numbers and case numbers about the investigation. They stated I could be subject to arrest if shared the information and that all my financial assets were going to be frozen during the length of the investigation or I could withdraw the funds and buy gift cards that would be registered with the U.S. Marshal's office. Once the caller had the gift card numbers they notified me that I had been scammed.
