Type of a scam Tech Support
The person identified himself as tech support for Kaspersky antivirus. After some conversation, he told that the issue can not be fixed by Kaspersky and he will initiate the contact to Windows tech support to fix the issue. She told him that she is not going to pay anything over the phone. He assured her that there will not be any charge for troubleshooting. She provided her name and contact number. Then he forwarded the call to windows tech support. That person told her that it would take 20-30 minutes to remove the malware from the system. She was not sure how to proceed so she said she will contact them later when her husband is at home.
She received a call from windows tech support during evening on the same day around 5:30PM. Person identified himself as Todd from windows tech support. He asked her access of the computer with https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/customer/code.aspx. After he was granted access, he showed her the location and virus and files affected. Then he installed trial version of antivirus software and informed that the malware needs special software which will cost $149.00 for 3 months. Around that time, I came home and my wife informed me that she was talking to tech support about some plans. She asked me to talk to him and showed me that he is accessing our computer. I immediately closed the logmein software and started shut down the computer. He asked me on the phone why I closed the connection. I told him I think its a scam. He replied, "Why do you think its a scam?" I started explaining him that any antivirus won't charge after the subscription is purchased. Upon which, he hung up the call. I contacted him again and asked him if he is legitimate business or scamming people. After which he started abusing and hung up the call.
I started looking for ways to report the scam and found the information on reserve look up. I checked the domain name and it pointed towards godaddy.com. I found the details of owner of http://kaspersky.usatousasupport.us/ on godaddy.com from link below
