Total money lost $490
Type of a scam Home Improvement
Pricing started at $15,600 for my 3 bdrm. single story brick house , USA ended up a $9,000.00 after a series of their manufactured "discounts" . However , USA had to have at least a $ 500 ,(I had $490) deposit to write the deal . This was on Thursday , the following Tuesday, installers showed up , I took them up to same spot in attic above LR picture window to make sure they were told about filling it through attic and not wall. Installer looked at me and said, " we do not do that".
I immediately took him down to LR to show him that we were talking about the top of the LR wall cavity , and again he said , "we do not do that". He went on to explain that USA Insulation does not insulate any portion of any wall ABOVE windows or doors, and not below some windows , depends on how close to floor.
This even though USA even has a TV commercial showing them filling a wall with their blow in insulation ,including above the widow.
Within 15 minutes of USA installers arrival , it was clear i had been lied to by USA sales. Installer called his supervisor who confirmed to me, USA insulation does not insulate above any widows or doors and may not below windows either, in the wall insulation package. I told the supervisor USA was fired then and I was cancelling the contract.
Now USA will not return my deposit because it said I am required by their contract to cancel 3 days prior to installation date.
The scam is , USA sales will say whatever it takes to get that deposit out of their prospective customer because they know even if the customer cancels when the installer shows up and tells them the truth, they already have the deposit money . Do not pay or sign anything until after the job is done and has been fully inspected to make sure you get what you pay for.
Their many ,many stories on Angies , Yelp, and pissedcustomer.com (s) of USA keeping deposits , sell whole house package ,but only insulate part of the wall or house, or shoddy work or spills/leaks , unfortunately I discovered too late , because I thought this was a reputable company. I even wrote to the owner of Michigan franchise explaining how I was scammed , he did not reply so he must condone their sales practices.
With rising heating costs, USA is stepping up their TV ads and we need to get the word out to homeowners . USA also works with a third party finance company , so homeowners who go this path have no leverage . USA gets paid from finance company and homeowner locked in with lien on their property , and customer stuck with insulation payments and same high heating bills due to USA not insulating all they promise to. This type of work does not require a permit either, another big loophole for this type of scam .
I will be filing complaints with Michigan AG office , Michigan LARA and ScamPulse.com and I encourage any other victims to do the same.
