Type of a scam Online Purchase
Other than the unusually low prices, even for seized vehicles, several other oddities stood out. First, several internet searches yielded no results for businesses of this name in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the supposed headquarters. I can find no record of such a business existing. Secondly, upon searching the business' supposed address, I found what looks to be an abandoned industrial warehouse (from street view images anyway) and no official Google Maps listing (despite one being shown on the company website). This did not appear to be a global headquarters of any kind.
I inquired further about the process for purchasing this particular vehicle through the site's live chat function. An individual by the name of "Edwin Becker" informed me that the vehicle was located in Tennessee with its current lien holder. I asked if any liens existed on the vehicle and was told it has a clean title, so had no liens (explain that!). Then, I asked about how the deposit process works. I was told that 20% of the purchase price ("about $1000") would need to be wired to a bank account, at which point the vehicle would be relocated to UsedCarsAB's "showroom" (I never got an answer as to where the showroom is) for inspection. I attempted to obtain the account number for wiring the funds, but was told that this would only be provided with my invoice. At this point, I was just fishing for information on the scam anyway, so left the chat.
This looks a lot like other wire transfer scams. Be cautious.
