Type of a scam Healthcare/Medicaid/Medicare
The ONLY reason I answered the "ROBOCALL" was because it showed MARKET PLACE, which I
believed was the HealthCare.gov MARKET PLACE and in order to avoid paying penalty for being uninsured,
I believed the MARKET PLACE was calling me to follow up on a telephone call that I had previously with a
Market Place counselor. My daughter had also previously initiated contact on the healthcare.gov website for
information about obtaining health insurance. These contacts were made within the past several months, so
I believed the telephone call from "MARKET PLACE" on 9/28/15 @ 10:59AM was a Follow Up with help in
choosing A Mandatory Health Insurance Plan through the Affordable Care Act... The Robocall offered help
in selecting health insurance for uninsured family members based on household income. For this reason, I picked
up the telephone handset, and "PRESSED ONE" to speak with a live agent... After the caller deceptively obtained
all personal and confidential information about my uninsured daughter, he stated her Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan would be effective October 1st. After giving caller my daughters SSN, weight, height, school she attends, every question was answered, including my Credit Card information for billing monthly premiums, at the end of the telephone call in which I was misled to believe I had enrolled my uninsured daughter into a MARKET PLACE health insurance plan, I attempted to verify with caller his name and that he was calling from the MARKET PLACE, as was shown on my caller I.D. He replied, "We are brokers..." and I immediately suspected scam. I hung up, dialed ScamPulse.com. Dialed Blue Cross BlueShield, Dialed the verifiable MARKET PLACE, Dialed the Credit Card company, Dialed the FTC, and the Credit Bureau. Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Market Place confirmed my suspicion. Credit card information, age, weight, height, school enrolled in, SSN- all of my daughters information I believed I was giving to the MARKET PLACE.
I have caller I.D. snapshots, answering machine messages, the telephone numbers that the SCAMMERS keep telling me to call every time they leave a message, and I received 2 emails from the scammer, as well. For fear they are malicious links, I did not click on any links. I know that the emails are NOT an invoice or a receipt from BCBS for application of my daughter's "health insurance plan." To quote Blue Cross, "It is IMPOSSIBLE for her to become insured effective anytime 2015. It is not Open Enrollment, I am sorry this happened to you, but this is a scam." End quote.
To quote the Market Place, "We do not make outbound calls to offer insurance. We DO make follow up or return calls once the customer has INITIATED contact with us." End quote. That was the case with me. I believed it was a Follow Up call because there had been initial contact made earlier in the year. And now, the timing seemed legitimate since it is almost time for Open Enrollment, and I believed I was receiving help in choosing the right plan for my daughter. As a result of this scam, I have unintentionally provided Identity Thieves with detailed confidental information.
