Charging without permission

I tried to pull the vin on my card and got charged over $250 23.97 a time and emailed and called multiple times and I got told that they can’t help me and not my problem. It took until February started in December to cancel.

We purchased a VIN report on a vehicle for $1.00 which was charged to our credit card, and did receive the report. However, a few days after, a charge of $0.97 appeared on our credit card account every couple of days. Since we caught it after three charges, only a total of $2.91 was charged, but it could have been much more if we had not caught it immediately. I called the company and they said my husband had checked a box to receive multiple VIN reports per month, which he had not. They agreed to stop charging us and said they would refund the charges made. After waiting a few months without a credit, I emailed them and they said they would issue the refund within 3-5 days, but did not do so. Now when I try to call or email, they are ghosting me. It's a very small amount of money but I assume that many others have had this happen and if they didn't catch the charges quickly, could have been charged much more than we were. That's why I am reporting them. I did get the charges credited to my account by my credit card company, so I am not out any money. It's just the principle that they are cheating people, and probably making a lot off of some people who might not be able to afford those extra charges.
