I would like to report an instance of fraud & slamming.
Someone came into our business in December 2015 and said he was from Verizon. He showed us a Verizon badge and had me sign an agreement that he would become our account representative. His name was Robert. Our phones were not working and he sent in Verizon techs to switch our lines to a cloud service as apparently our phones were not working because they were on copper lines. At this point verizon informed us that our account with them had been closed and our provider had been switched to MCI. When I called Robert to ask what had happened, he wouldn't call back or answer his phone. I then left him a voice mail saying I was going to report him. At this point he returned my call and explained that he had been scammed by a company called Venicom. This is his story:
Robert found out that he was working for Venicom, not verizon. He applied via Indeed - the position he applied for was "Verizon account manager for business development". In the interview, a man told him they were Venicom, a subsidiary of Verizon who had a partnership with the company, and lead them to believe they were in fact working for Verizon. Venicom gave them fake bar codes & verizon badges in addition a script saying, 'we are from verizon , etc... '
The script went something like this : "I'm here with Verizon, Verizon is transferring clients to a cloud service , I am doing a survey of the site to see if you are compatible, we want to switch you to Verizon Enterprise so you can be on the cloud".
I believe MCI is hiding under the guise of Verizon Enterprise and this is how they managed to switch our account.
Clearly MCI has something to do with Venicom ... Venicom is infringing upon Verizon with such prevarications to clients & employees about who they are. I hope that someone will help us understand what happened to us and help prevent this from happening to other businesses.
Our account number with Verizon was * *** ***. After this happened, I received a letter from Verizon saying our new account # was ***. I have yet to receive a bill from MCI or Venicom... I suspect MCI is paying Venicom because how else could they extract money from Verizon customers without being noticed? MCI can get away with it because they are owned by Verizon Enterprise and can, I suspect, send bills out with Verizon company letterhead.
Thank you for your time. ***
