Venmo- IMPOSTOR Reports & Reviews (15)

Received a call from 1 (855) 812-4430, caller ID states it's Venmo. Answered the phone and the guy on the other line told me my account was being used to purchase some jewelry in San Diego, CA and ask if I'm making that purchase. I deny it, and the user confirmed my login name and password on Venmo. He knew exactly, my login name and password but needed the last 4 of my social security as well as the code he was going to generate to my cell phone. Suffice to say, it was all a fraud, I was able to change my password and cancel my credit card/debit card with Venmo, but not after he authorized a $5000 payment to my credit card twice, thereby causing a $30 return check fee from Venmo twice and a $25 returned check fee from my bank, twice. So I lost a total of $110 for fees I didn't initiate.

Scam call saying My Venmo was hacked and scammers had already bridged a fake account to it. In doing so “Venmo” needed to cancel that other account. They said I had an email but when I didn’t find it, they text me a code and asked me to repeat it “on their secure line after the beep” since no one could be privy to the private code. I hung up before repeating the code. I then googled this and a woman reported a similar scam wherein the code allows them to access your account and bank account. Careful folks!

This company sent a text message warning me they were going to charge my account $192 dollars I do not have an account with them.

this number claimed they were venmo and tried to hack into my account. they told me that someone by the name of “ashley reed” was trying to to get into my account and transfer $2000 out from my account. they asked me to change my password to a temporary one provided and even asked me to read them a code sent to my phone. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFO. venmo does not call anyone.

I got a call from "Venmo Fraud Department" and they informed me that my venmo account was about to receive a transaction that was fraudulent. They wanted me to send money to the victim before the payment hit- OBVIOUSLY A SCAM. So I told them I would absolutely not be doing that. In response, they froze my account and transferred $1200 through venmo anyways. I am so upset as someone living paycheck to paycheck.

Woman called me saying that someone has gained access to my account and she was from Venmo. She had me reset my password and said that I needed to read her a verification code. Then, she transferred me 1600 dollars, and said that I needed to send it to someone on Zelle, because someone scammed us both. I sent her the money back and changed my password, email, and made a pin/face id. I also froze my card for the time being. I really hope I dont lose any money, I will update you.

Number provided contacted me claiming to be fraud unit for venmo. Said a new device has been trying to access my account for venmo. Was phishing for info asking what characters are used for my password(numerical or letter). I said I didn't trust them, then they asked if my name was correct and tried to confirm my address which they had. I hung up and said I couldn't hear them.

I received a notification from Venmo that my account was trying to be accessed by a different computer. I changed my password immediately.

Then I received a call from the number above stating they were from the Venmo fraud department and there was a $2,000 charge that was trying to be deposited into my account. They said they saw my password was changed. He asked if I knew a David White as that is who was trying to make the deposit. Then said there would be a $4,000 deposit into my account and that is when I hung up.

A call from a woman speaking Spanish when I answered the phone. The woman said someone by the name of Ashley Reed was trying to transfer money out of my Venmo account to an account out of the country. Then the call dropped. She called me back to back 4 times again so when I answered, she said the same thing again. Then she said she was going to text me a code for me to read back to her....I did receive a text and a code that said to never share the code with anyone, but it looked sketchy so I hung up the phone. They then proceeded to call me 3 more times. She accidentally left me a voicemail speaking to a colleague in Spanish. I googled it and found a news article of some woman who had the same thing happen, and once she recited to code to the person on the phone, thousands of dollars were taken through the card linked to her Venmo. I then googled Venmo customer service and the number was different as Venmo is based in CA and the area code of the scammers was in NY.

I got a text out of the blue asking me to change my Venmo password

- Los Angeles, CA, USA

Received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Venmo Fraud department. Told me I had suspicious logins from other states and asked if those were mine. I said no and he sent me a private code via text (the SAME text that Venmo uses to confirm identity) and then a separate website to enter the code (included above). I didn't provide any personal information - the man already had my email address and phone number associated with my account. Once I entered the code in, transfers began going in and out of my account to and from people that I didn't know. I contacted these other people through Facebook and they have also lost >$2k.

I had 4 calls from +1 (855) 812-4430 the first 3 I didn’t answer because I thought it was telemarketers but the 4th I answered. And the person said they’re from Venmo Fraud Dept. trying to catch someone sending transactions. I called the # from a different phone and it was Venmo’s # so I complied. They asked if I authorized the transaction I said no. They said the will send me a code to confirm my identity. Do not ever believe anyone who calls from Venmo. They will never call you.

- Knoxville, TN, USA

Received an email from Venmo saying my account had been flagged for Security Alert. Asked me to click on the link to verify my transactions. When I clicked the button it asked for my username and password. I immediately exited the site and contacted Venmo who confirmed it was not from them. With my credentials, they could have transferred all of the money in my account to their account.
