Venmo Reports & Reviews (27)

I kept receiving emails at my work email addressed to someone named "Brandi" about their venmo account. I do not have and have never had a venmo account. I recognized them as scams and ignored them. Finally getting fed up, I emailed venmo at the address on their website and told them what was happening. They said they deleted my email but that I should change all my passwords everywhere and I'm not going to do that until I have some evidence that this scam has impacted my info.

I receive automated voicemails advising that there’s been an attempt to take money from Venmo

- Ridgefield, CT, USA

Contacted someone through a Group Me group chat regarding purchasing concert tickets. Got the scammer's phone number and chatted about price and negotiated $430 for two tickets. Scammer gave me a venmo account to send the money to, I sent the money and they never sent me the tickets and stopped responding to all messages. Venmo has not helped get me my money back.

My daughter sent me money using Venmo and I got a notification about it saying it's from "Oakwood Rehab". I checked and I did have the money and I was able to initiate a transfer to my checking account but what is Oakwood Rehab? Once my transfer clears my daughter and I will close Venmo.

I received a text message saying “your VENMO checking account was used to make a transaction of $799.00. Contact Customer Support at 1-800-281-3193.”

I downloaded the Venmo app to send money to my niece. After putting my info in it says a 4 digit code will be sent via txt. So a little pop up of the text had the 4 digits. I plugged them in to the app. After I went to my texts to see full text message I received from Venmo and it was titled Oakwood Rehab. So I went back to the Venmo app, tried to sign in but it said my user/phone number/email was incorrect. Tried it again, same thing. Then again, thinking I had punched it in incorrectly. Nothing. Started to panic. Called my bank, asked to block Venmo. No dice. Had to cancel my debit card and have to wait 5 days to receive new one.

This is the text I received when starting up a Venmo account.

2820 is your Venmo phone verification code. Enter it at venmo.com or in the Venmo app to verify your account. /xgtoYT3piw

It was sent from 86753 which is supposed to be Venmo.

But is labeled automatically as

"Oakwood Rehab"

What the heck?

Please find out what is going on. I sure hope i dont suddenly find what little money I have gone one day. Now I can't help my niece because my bank account is locked. This is getting out of control with the scammers. Please remove any personal info before sharing this with others. I just don't want any body else to be scammed like this. Thank you very very much.

PrivatePerson is incorrect. This is a total scam! Any automated phone call that you receive anonymously and there is a text code for you to enter, is a scam. Little things to look for is the formatting. See the attached image for differences in formatting from one day to the next.

My Venmo name just changed to "Oakwood Rehab" the other day. I think it was some not-so-smartypants Samsung thing making assumptions.

[email protected] are the most reliable and legit source of hackers to deal with, they gave me $15,000

Item posted for sale on Facebook marketplace. Person under a fake account contacted me. Person attempted to pay for the item using Venmo and asked for email linked to account. Received email asking to send $300 to allow “purchase” of $200 to come back to me

I received two request simultaneously through Venmo. Both request had my daughters profile picture and name the request read "sorry I m For my groceries I left my cash home. I'll send it back as soon as I get back home please and thank you. Appreciate it!!" I sent the money as my daughter has small children and just assumed she forgot her wallet. Once I realized it was a scam, I contacted my bank and Venmo. Venmo sent me a letter stating they weren't responsible and do did my bank as it was a 3rd party vendor. Now I am out $500 and know one is taking responsibility. Safety measures to not allow someone to false an account with my daughters information and picture because the next day the very same request went to my other daughter!

I was selling an expensive briefcase on Facebook Marketplace. I was contacted by James Kingsley. He created a fictitious Venmo account and told me to mail him the handbag at which time the money would be released. I was able to stop the shipment after I called Venmo directly telling me they do not have a Gmail account.

Contacted through VENMO App. I was Sent $300.00 from a "NYC Best Selling Author" "Jenn Sterling"- After my husband looked her up online he said this is definitely a SCAM! Although, he found the actual author online and confirmed that there is such a person, but we suspected this was fake. - So, the scam started with her Wishing me well after surgery. I thought that was strange because I was actually recovering from surgery from 6 days ago. Probing the so called "Jenn Sterling"...more followed-then a few minutes later, multiple "other people"...sent $1.00 "gifts"...then when I contacted her through the messaging part of the app, and asked how she knew I had surgery, she said it was posted in a "book reading group"...then she "discovered" I was sent the money by "accident" and asked if I could please, return the money. A short time later the "other people" also requested for her, for me to return the $300.00 to "JENN" That's when we once again suspected it was a scam.

A friend sent $500.00 to me through Venmo but I never received the funds. My phone number is registered with Venmo but there seems to be a problem with my email on their end, they are not showing it as linked to my phone number. On their help page they ask to send the last four of your bank account, email and phone, but I have sent in this information and now they are asking me to send a photo of a valid and active Visa card, my drivers license and/or passport and other personal information. At one point they told me I could send a utility bill but then sent an email after I sent it that it was not acceptable, it was a bill from Southern CA Edison (SCE). I can't use the chat help because I can't log in and I can't create another account because it says my phone is already linked Both my friend and I have been sending emails since September 25th, with NO RESULTS and we can't connect with anyone, just keep getting the same song and dance. I don't know where to turn for help Can the ScamPulse.com help me get this resolved? Thank you!

Person identified requested $3000 from Venmo and requested it back immediately saying it was an accident

- Lake Worth, FL, USA

I received a telephone call from what I thought was a representative at Venmo. They stated that a fraudulent transaction had been flagged and they wanted to verify whether or not it was a valid transaction. They read me a name of who attempted the charge and the amount and I confirmed that it was in fact fraudulent. They said that they would be sending a text to my phone with a security code and to read the security code to them when I received it. I did so and they said that it has been frozen and they would be opening an investigation into the matter. Two hours later, over 20 charges hit my checking account for more than $2,000. The phone number is now not in service and they have locked me out of my Venmo account and changed my primary email so it can not be reset. I have reached out to my bank and Venmo for further assistance.
