Facebook Marketplace Google verification code to “make sure you’re a real seller” scam. I almost fell for it until I googled it!

I received an inquiry about an item listed on KSL Classifieds. The scammer expressed interest in buying the item and sent me a verification code and asked that I send back the code. Unfortunately I did not know this is a Google Voice account scam. Fortunately Google Voice provides a way to reclaim any Google Voice numbers linked to my cell phone. I just don't know how often I will need to check to make sure a new link is not made.
