Veteran's Commission Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Lakewood, OH, USA • Aug 16, 2024

My husband passed away on June  24th and on July 3rd I received a call from "The Veterans Commission."  They asked me if I received the pamphlet from the funeral home.   Susan Thompson told me that my husband had a life insurance policy that needed to pay off what he was behind on paying them before I could  receive the $30,000 benefit.  She said that if I didn't pay the difference of what he owed I would lose 85% of the policy money.  She verified very personal information, such as my address, even my son's name and his address.  She instructed me that I would need to go to Office Depot and purchase $3,000. They even gave me the addresses of the Office Depot's where to purchase Re-Load It cards. The caller told me they would hold the phones open until I purchased the gift cards. Her number is 216-698-2600 ext 2881.  I went to (Office Depot) 3462 Mayfield Road Severance Center.  Once the gift cards were purchased ($500 increments for $3,000 ), I contacted her as she instructed.  I provided the numbers on the gift cards and she told me to rip up the cards and scratch off the numbers on the receipt.  She then instructed me to put the cut up gift cards and to place them in the mail.  She provided an address where to send them and also told me how many stamps to put on the envelope.  She told me to send this to  Susane Thompson 770T3 WA, DC 20001 Return address Attention: VBR PO Box 31416 Washington DC 20013I was told to let them know when I mailed the cut up gift cards.  I called back and spoke with Brian Cooper (ID 4813), who said he was from United Insurance.  He gave me a reinstatement number 5802910031. He said that I still owed $468 but they would take that out of the check they were going to send to my bank.  I gave them my banking information.  The next day was a holiday (July 4, 2024) so I gave them until July 5th.  No money was received so I called the number and asked for Susan.  They said that she does not work there and of  got on the phone after I mailed. I called and worked with someone at the Cuyahoga County Commissioner office and they were able to assist me with the benefits.  I contacted the police, cancelled my bank account and also reached out to Re-Load It to try and get my money back.
