Someone from Upwork named Haley sent me an invitation to a virtual assistant job. I really wanted a job so I accepted. This guy name Bill from viberoller contacted me saying he wants me to start working because he has a all state tour he’s planning and wants me to send email to three different people and book event centers for 150 people. I did the assignment even though in the back of my mind it sounded a bit weird. The next day this guy sent me a weird looking 1099 to add me to payroll. Now today this guy says he’s getting overwhelmed from dealing with service providers for seminars so he’s gonna send me a check to deposit in my account so I can manage the service providers for him. He wanted me to print the check sign it and deposit it. Luckily my printer started acting up , I went out got new ink but the printer still wouldn’t print anything. I quickly starting wondering to myself if this was a scam, so I started looking up the name Bill Fabrocini from viberoller scams and the first thing that came up was this page. He even wanted me to set up a new Upwork client page for him and I would do the recruitment and I’m supposed to send him the password and email for that account. I told him today I’m gonna have my FBI cousin take a look at the check for me and deposit it into my account he said okay. A few minutes after I say the Upwork account password changed and a security question was added.

I’m not sure what proposal I applied for on UpWork but I was contacted immediately. He got very personal very quickly on the first call. I almost thought he was attracted to me. He told me he was a single dad to twins and a widower from California. He said was Italian but on the phone his accent is Asian. His name was Bill Fabrocini, and an “accountant” named MacClean Davis lol. He had me making arrangement and plans for a seminar tour. He sent a fake 1099 and said his accountant would take care of it. After three days, he said he trusted me to pay open invoices with the “company” card. He even send a paper check to try and mobile deposit. I saw the game being played early and wanted to see where this was going. Ultimately he as me to go buy $1500 in gift cards and send him the barcodes. He pressured me into sending an account info. I quickly shut the card down and had everything changed. Upwork just politely reminded me that NO OUTSIDE COMMUNICATIONS OR PAYMENTS. I reported it, blocked him in everything. And removed myself from Upwork. Please because and if it sounds weird it’s weird.

Scam! Applied on Upwork and offer was too good to be true, 2-3 hrs daily for 600$ per week. Nothing seemed clear over the phone interview. This is the phone number: (204) 803-2649, also contract had a weird looking signature, it’s the weirdest thing I saw in a while, he didn't even try to make it look normal (I attached the image so you can see it). So glad I didn’t start working for this guy and waste my time. This is the second time I got scammed on Upwork, I really hope that platform has some real work opportunities..

Same experience as the others here. I submitted a proposal for a position on Upwork, which also requested my resume. My contact person was named Wilson MacGinis, phone number 352-587-0258. He texted me and provided info about the role and compensation, then requested a phone call to discuss. We spoke and then he said he would email me a contract. I was short on time because he was late for the call and didn't get to ask any questions. I haven't received the contract yet, but he said that he sent it and to check my spam.
It all felt a bit sketchy so I googled and found this forum. Thanks to all for taking action to report the issue. I wish there was more we could do to stop others from falling for the scam. I will report to Upwork.
Scam via Upwork

“Michael Deen” texted me from a Maryland based number +1 (443) 228-8602 after I applied to a Virtual Assistant job on Upwork. He reached out saying he was from Vibe Rollers the company name was mentioned no where within the post so I was a bit confused. His response was almost too immediate. I have faith in my resume and skills but it felt off quickly. He did an interview via text, weird but I obliged and answered. We set a call for the next morning and he said he would send me the contract. Initially it went to my spam and that should have been another sign! The contract reads slightly legit but no company logo or mentions. The signature is a photo of some scribble. He texted me multiple times before our call the next morning. Once we got on the call I knew things were off. He said it would be through payroll and not Upwork and I said I felt a bit off by that. I asked if 1099 or W2 work and he basically just said “yes”. I told him I would need to discuss with accounting before committing to anything. He said he would send an updated contract. I hung up andddd did a google search and you have all confirmed my suspicions, thank you! Reported to Upwork, I hope they stop him from doing this to more people!

Okay, I knew I was getting some bad vibes from "Mike" and I wanted to verify his identity before continuing to "work" for him.

I had the same experience - received a text from (313)637-4705 after I submitted an Upwork proposal for a Virtual Assistant position. The "interview" took place by text and I accepted the "position" which would pay great money with great hours! The "contract" was a big red flag and I should have known better (from [email protected]). The signature looked like a Google image of a child's scribble.

I did one day's worth of work for this guy, which seemed really high-level, coordinating with vendors, budgets, and event planning. It started being really sketchy when he asked me to create an email address and Upwork account in his name for "recruiting" using the same wording that was in the post I applied to.

He then asked for my bank account and routing number for direct deposit. I asked for a photo of his ID before giving my personal information and he avoided it.

I'm glad I found this page before continuing on this path. However, I am super bummed that it's not a real job :(

Well, I'm off to go tell this guy to go [censored] himself and report him on Upwork.

Michael Deen. Says he's is from UpWork
Viberollers is a company that did exist, it has since been dissolved. David Mills is a real person who was in the BRITISH military. Not the US. Other info is the same as others have posted. I just need a job. I hate it here.

Same thing happened to me. They asked me to use my cash app to send Bitcoin payment. I worked really hard for the past two days and I’m dire need of a job. This is not okay.

I don't know what proposal request prompted it but I received an invitation to discuss a virtual assistance position after submitting a few requests through Upwork. I chatted with an individual, who identified himself as Michael Deen, early in the day via text at (313) 637-4705.

The discussion was normal and he asked standard interview questions before I was offered the position and told I would receive a contract by email. This was the first red flag because all contracts through Upwork must be facilitated through their platform. It took several hours to receive the contract after his offer of employment and the email was from [email protected].

This email and company does not have any online presence outside of Amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/stores/VibeRollers/Homepage/page/CD8029BA-47E2-4391-83EA... />
I was really looking forward to this employment offer and I am sadden to see that it was a scam.

I want to cry. I'm physically unable to work a lot of in-person positions. I've applied to 170 places and was so excited to finally have a breakthrough. I wish these losers cared
