I was contacted by what seemed to be a recruiter for a company called Vicinity Centres. The initial contact was over email, where they explained open positions I seemed to fit for. They also said they found my application on Workday. They asked if I would be interested in interviewing. I said yes, then they asked me to download an app called “Signal,” which turned out to be an encrypted messaging app. I did download it just to see what was going on. I was then reached out to by a “hiring manager” named Carlos. He told me I would be needing to go through a pre-screening of a couple questions, then went out of his way to apologize for how unprofessional the contact method was. The grammar and spelling was not correct either. I immediately blocked the contact on the app, deleted the app, blocked the email and phone number that contacted me. I did not answer any questions because I knew something was off. I cross-checked the name of the hiring manager on LinkedIn, no one showed up with his name. I decided to then report it on ScamPulse.com and saw this scam has already been reported.
