I was selling my truck on craig's list and was texted by the scammer saying they were interested in the truck and asked some legit questions. They then convinced me to purchase a vehicle history report from a company they wanted. I thought this would cinch the sale. After I paid for the report I sent it to them and never heard back from them.

I called the report company because I was suspicious and asked them whether they had affiliates and if they paid them by commission - which they refused to answer. Then I knew it was a scam. I had another guy do the same thing right before this guy but with a different report company but I was able to stop that payment because my bank agreed with me. Paypal on the other hand refused to side with me even though the company's phone number with paypal is disconnected.

They are committing fraud by impersonating a buyer when they are lying to you and getting you to buy their report.
