I agree to meet, ask for proof of drivers license and insurance, and everything seems to be going well.
Then, they ask for the "ARH reports". I ask what those are, and he says he wants a VIN report. I run a free one for him and ask where I can send it. He responds, No, I need to use "vindatarecord .com". I tell him I'm happy to send him the VIN and he can run whatever reports he wants. He says no, he's taking his entire day to come see the car, I need to provide him the report. He's at work, it's only reasonable because he wants to see if the VIN is clean. Again, I offer my VIN. I run a free report and download it, offering to send it to him. He says that I must send him a report from vindatarecord .com. Always sent that way: vindatarecord .com.
So, I looked up that website, and it's a scam. it's probably that guy's website, or he gets a cut of each person he sends to it. I'd pay $25 to run the vindatareport .com check, and never hear from him again and have my credit card info stolen.
I had anticipated people trying to steal my car, or scam me out of the car using fake checks. I hadn't expected someone to try to scam me into running a VIN check for $25... but I guess it's a great way to get peoples' payment info.
