I'm selling a car through cars.com and received a phone call I couldn't answer right away. A few minutes later I got a text message from the same number saying: "I saw your car listing online and wanted to ask you a few questions." Then after I said ok, they said "I read the whole description but i didn't see the price in it.." I gave them the price then they asked me to pull a history report from vinpremiumcheck.com that redirects to http://official.vin. I thought this sounded fishy so I looked it up and found some information about VIN scams here. I responded back saying that I already had a carfax report and if they wanted any more they would have to buy it themselves. They then asked me to let them know after I pulled the report to set a time to meet up. At this point I ignored any further messages.

I have a van listed on Craigslist & received a call from a Florida number. The caller asked if I was still selling my van. After replying yes the call ended. I then received a text & he said he couldn’t talk on the phone & if we couldn’t text. I replied yes. Here’s the the text conversation:

Scammer:I saw your car listing online and wanted to ask you a few questions. I read the whole description but i didn't see the price in it. Whats the price on the (name of van)?

Me: $xxxx OBO

Scammer: Would you please pull a history report from vinpremiumcheck.com - Please email that to me at: [email protected]

Me: ok I’ll run that by my spouse.

Scammer: Just lmk after you've pulled the report and we can make a time to meet up

Me: I will have my husband give you the vin number & you can pull the report.

Scammer: thanks look forward to seeing the report ;) ive had my eye on the (name of van). I think im ready to buy it.

Me: If you are interested I can get a report from I site I am familiar with & show it to you when we meet in person :)

Scammer: I will check my email later today when i get home! Thank you!!

(The whole time I’m checking the internet for scams & I found on ScamPulse.com about this same one)

My last text: You'll have to call someone else. I'm a pretty hard target for scammers. Have a great day! Your email will never come. ??
