Person texted me wanting to know more info about the car I had for sale. They asked questions that were covered in the ad (this was the first red flag). Then they said they wanted me to pull a report on the car from vinpuller.com. I never heard of this site and found it strange that they wanted a report from that particular site. I told them they needed to see the car in person before I would consider pulling a report. They persisted about wanting the report first. When I said again that I would not pull a report until after they came to see they car, the communication stopped.

Four hours after I placed my car for sale on Craigslist I got a phone call that lasted a few seconds. It was followed up with a text message. Here is the exchange:

Caller: Currently driving and cant get a signal to talk

Very interested in your listing for 2015 prius

Me:Glad you're interested. call at your convenience.

Caller: How many miles are on it?

I would feel more comfortable coming out to see it if will get a history check on your car from vinpuller.com

this shows the vehicle accident history and makes sure there are no major accidents or title issues

If you can do that and email me the report to [email protected] I will keep an eye out for it then schedule a time to come meet you

Me: 35,500 I'll get a report.

Caller:I look forward to potentially buying the 2015 prius after I see its 100% clean from that report.

I’ve had my eye on this make/model for a while now.

I went to the website- LOOKED VERY GOOD. ENTERED MY VIN AND GOT A CORRECT INITIAL REPORT.

I WAS THEN AT A SCREEN THAT WAS REQUESTING PERSONAL INFO BEFORE PURCHASE. THAT'S WHEN I GOT SUSPICIOUS AND GOOGLED "VIN REPORT SCAMS" AND FOUND ALL SORTS OF STUFF THAT FIT THIS DESCRIPTION--- I almost got taken!

.....At this point I responded back

Me: Sorry, I will not be able to provide you with that report until we meet in person.

This vehicle is only available to local parties.

I have heard nothing since.
