They were desperate. When I said I didn't have any cash they said they would take a postdated check.
They said they stopped by to ask a second time because they thought I was a new owner of the house.
I never asked why they stopped by a second time. The fact that they had a pre prepared answer to a question I didn't ask was suspicious as is their desperation to take a post dated check.
One guy stopped by my house a few months earlier asking for the same thing. He had a pre prepared laminated paper saying it showed he was really collecting donations and was not a scam. He never handed me the paper so I could read it.
Same thing. Very suspicious. There actions and answers to questions I didn't ask.
The fist guy got $10 and I didn't think on it till the second visit. The second visitors got nothing.
