Type of a scam Online Purchase
Per below emails copied and pasted:
Here is more about the job and how urgently I wanted it to be done. I'm relocating with my family from Colorado to Boonville, MO. I just got the house in Boonville, MO and I would like it to be ready before my arrival next month, that's the main reason I contacted you about the painting and I want the job to be done as soon as possible.
"The house is a 4 beds 2 Baths,Living Area: 1,966 Square Feet,Building Area: 1966,Lot Area: 0.31 acres located at *** *** ** ********** ** *****.
The dimensions are as follows:
Master Bedroom Dimensions: 20 x 10
Bedroom 2 Dimensions: 15 x 11
Bedroom 3 Dimensions: 12 x 12
Bedroom 4 Dimensions: 12 x 12
Bathroom 1 Dimensions: 6ft x 5ft
Bathroom 2 Dimensions: 8ft x 12ft
You will be painting just the walls and ceilings of the 4 bedrooms and 2 Baths. My wife does not feel comfortable with the present color of the rooms so we want to change the colors, the walls are in good condition as they were recently painted, just want a change of color for the bedrooms and bathrooms. You can visit the house if you care to but I don't think it's necessary because I am not in Boonville, MO now and the person in charge of the paint delivery is the one who will give you access when he arrives in Boonville, MO. I believe you can easily make an estimate with the sizes I already gave you. My measurements are accurate but I know the price may change after getting into the house so I will pay 50% upfront and balance upon completion just to make sure it works for both of us in case there are changes in labor price after starting the job, the changes will be fixed in the balance payment.
I want you to know that I have already placed an order for the Paints you are to use for the Painting which will be delivered to the house as soon as the payment has been made. Take all your tools with you when you are going to start the painting because all paints will be ready for you at the address. Let me know your estimate for the labor so I can Proceed with the payment and I would like to know if you accept a check as a means of payment.

At this point I provided the quote and my information for him to write a check. This next email is where I finally saw the scam asking me to deposit the check and pay the paint supplier. (per below)
I got your Information and the payment check will be mailed to your address as soon as possible. I want you to know that the Job is fully secure to you as I am trusting you to have your payment at hand and at least that will tell you I am not contacting any other painter for the work. I hope you are going to deliver a good job and I believe after this job, we can also work together on some other projects as well.
Like I said earlier, the payment will be issued to you this week and I want you to know that the payment for the paints will be added to the payment that will be sent to you. The reason for this is that I want you to have your payment with you first as for you to know that the job is ready to get started as soon as the paints supplier supplies the paints to the house address. So what you are to do is that, once you get the check, Kindly get it deposited into your bank account and once the check is cleared, you are to deduct your workmanship price out of the funds and get the rest of the funds sent to the supplier who is supplying the paints. The rest of the funds will cover the payment of the paints which includes the shipment as well, because I have already ordered the paints, so once the payment is sent to the supplier, it will take 2 to 3 days for the paints to get delivered.
You will be notified when the paints are going to be delivered so you can get yourself ready at the location. I hope I can trust you to be hard working and trust you to do this for me. I hope you have a better understanding of what I am talking about and the kind of person I believe you are.
