I got an email saying I had been chosen for a secret shopper. About a week later a random check showed up from Jeffery B Burgy Auditor-Controller. I was texted as soon as the check arrived and instructed to deposit it in my account. Then when the check cleared the texted instructed me to go to stores near me and buy gift cards for $850 each. When I said that didn’t seem right I was instructed to purchase $800 money orders instead. I told the texted that I was not interested and wanted to give the money back. I was called a drama Queen. After a bit of back and forth the texter said they would call the financial institution and cancel the check. Which I suspect is what was going to happen all along.
