Type of a scam Debt Collections
"medical debt" from 2009 incurred in New York State. He knew he had an ambulance ride from around that time
for which he never received a bill, so he assumed that this was an actual, valid collection. Lucinda Perry stated
that he could set up a payment plan over 14 months, or if he paid today, she could get the settlement reduced
from $2000 down to $1468.44. She had his social security number and asked him to "confirm" his mailing
address, which he did. He agreed to pay the lump sum, and I gave him my credit card to do it. Lucinda Perry
then asked me to digitally sign a credit card authorization, which I did, and I gave her my credit card numbers
over the phone. She then transferred me over to "Accounting" and to someone who identified himself as
"Andrew Boswell." Andrew stated that he would be recording the call for security purposes and asked if I agreed
to have my credit card charged. Because we assumed this was a legitimate debt collection, I did agree. I asked
that all of the paperwork be immediately emailed to my husband. All they provided was a "FINAL MONTHLY
BILLING STATEMENT" showing the amount of the "collection," the hospital name where the ambulance bill
was incurred, and a $0 balance. It was then that I realized that we had just been scammed. We never received
any written notices, no bills of any sort, and no verification that this was an actual debt which they had legal
authorization to collect. I began to research this company after we got off the phone and realized that they have
operated under at least 3 different names (Watson and Stephens, WS Associates, W&S Associates, and Walker & Sons), all of which have no actual office location and work out of rented mailboxes and UPS Stores in
California (and it looks like previously, Georgia). Their websites are all very basic with only stock photos and no
actual information or contacts. When I disputed it with my credit card, they send the same word-processed "final invoice" with their address and phone number poorly whited out, and used the name "Walker & Sons." As of today, it's been almost two months and we have not received the verification of debt we requested which legally must be provided if this were a legitimate, collectible debt.
