I contacted Bark.com to find a business to build a website for my son's business. On 01/28/2023, I received a text that said, "This is Jay from Bark.com." He told me that he could build me a professional website for $299.00. He said, "No monthly fee, just a one time cost only." After talking with him and looking at his website, Webmasters.us, I felt it appeared to be legitimate. I paid the amount of $2,340 through Cash App to a "Marene Ali" which I verified with Jay to be the right account. Then I was told it would cost $1,189.36 for 3 years hosting and 10 years for the domain. I paid the amount again through Cash App to the account of Marene Ali. This was made in two payments per Jay's request. First for $500.00, then the next for $689.36. Throughout the process, I was shown a very amateurish website that appeared to be a template used for another site that they were just changing. I was able to tell him what changes to make, but it was never completed to my satisfaction. Next, I was told it would cost $1,650.00 for a lifetime patent and trademark through the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). I told him there was nothing to patent, but I agreed to the trademark of the name and logo. Jay said there was a shipping fee of $55.00 for each registration certificate that would be sent directly to my house address. The total was $851.71, which again I paid through Cash App to Marene Ali. In an unusually short period after claiming to have registered the trademark, Jay claimed that he received the information from the USPTO and that it was going to cost more money. I reminded him that he originally stated there would only be a one-time cost. Now, he keeps asking for more and more money. I told him that I would not be paying anymore money and to finish the website. Throughout the process, I would also receive phone calls from a California phone number 760-284-5059 from a Amelia Baker claiming to be my project manager. She would call at times when I wasn't available, and when I attempted to return her calls, I could not get through to her. There was little contact after telling Jay that there would be no more money spent on this project. I heard nothing from him since 03/07/2023 when he claimed they had turned the website live. They never completed the website design to my satisfaction, nor did I approve it. After checking, I found there was no website. I paid a total of $2,340.07 and received nothing. I only recently heard from Jay on 03/28/2023, after I reported him to Bark.com and they removed him from doing business with them. He claimed the website is up and asked if I looked at it. I told him I went to the web address and there was nothing. He tried to backpedal and say that he could fix it. I told him I was through with him and to refund my money. He tried to say that they already did all the work. There is no website and I never received any registered trademark certificates from the USPTO. I recently tried to go to his website, Webmasters.us and found I could no longer get to it. In addition to notifying Bark.com, I have also notified the Federal Trade Commission, my State Attorney General's Office through the Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, posted a complaint on Ripoffreport.com and posted it on my Facebook page. I tried to get him to refund my money so we could just part ways, but if I'm not going to get a refund, then I want everyone to know about his unethical business practices and to stay clear of him.
