Ok....so, being a retired analyst immediate red flags went up. So, I looked up the Company listed on the check because the letter only offered an email address, a phone number I am to TEXT ONLY to that I recieved the check and my assignment and typed on the far bottom right of the letter ended with, Regards, Nathan William's.
The Companys name listed on the check was Westchester Country Club, the address was weird as it gave the address number as 12250 but the street was all in lower case letters ie: westchester club drive, and the city, st and zip were Boynton Beach Florida 33437....
So I did some investigating on my own and found a Westchester County "Golf" Club, the checks address did not include the word 'golf in it. So I got the ph number to said golf club and emailed them as they were closed and asked if they were in any way apart of this survey business, no answer yet. I then called the number given in the letter telling me to TEXT ONLY...and low a behold it didn't even ring...or lead me to a voicemail, it was just the sound of being disconnected. I then ran the USPS Tracking number ( 9405 5112 0088 1886 7592 67) on the Flate Rate Envelope this check and letter were sent with and found it was sent from Bangor Maine, not Boyton Beach Florida!
The check I received from this survey company supposedly is a Wells Fargo check and I have the check information if needed. End result was I listened to my intuition that this may be a scam and I did not deposit this check nor am I going to answer the text I recieved on my ph this morning asking me to press yes or no as to whether I recieved it.
Can you please look into this and let me know if my intuition was right?
This type of fraud just angers me because innocent people who desperately need work will be devastated if they end up scammed.
Thank you.
