I was contacted through text message about a remote job. I'm pretty sure I had put my phone number down to be contacted about finding a job. They then switched over to the messaging app, WhatsApp, to talk to me about a remote job opportunity. It is basically rating five stars on furniture and items from the company, West Elm. There is a whole website platform that does this that you log into. There is a digital wallet on the platform that you need to have money in to make the reviews. At first they have money for you, but then they assign you higher ticket items that you cannot afford with your own wallet in the platform. So they ask you to deposit money through cryptocurrency to be able to complete the task. They have you talked to a customer service rep onWhatsApp. That customer service rep talks you through sending crypto making withdraws, adding more funds, etc. If you don't have enough money in the digital wallet to complete the task, they freeze the funds so you cannot withdraw them. So basically you have to deposit money so that you can withdraw the funds. With each task it gets more and more and eventually you have to deposit more and more money to be able to eventually withdraw your money. However, they cause a bunch of different misunderstandings so that you have to pay more and more fees to "unfreeze" your money to withdraw. The CS rep was very vague in their instructions and caused me to make mistakes, even though I have in verified the instructions with the CS rep. They told me that I had made a mistake and now I have to pay a penalty. They keep having you put higher and higher amounts, saying that you will be able to pull it out guaranteed. Then another issue occurs so that you do not have the ability to withdraw your money. Things like, having to do more tasks, a.k.a. having to put in more money, to complete those tasks so your money will not be frozen, to paying penalty fees that are not actually your fault. They claim that it is up to the merchant to decide if they can help you out. They say that they cannot cancel tasks so that you cannot unfreeze your money, which means that you have to put in more money to be able to get your money out. Each time the penalty fee rose higher and higher to a point where the last penalty fee I would have to pay would be $150,000 to be able to pull out the nearly $100,000 I had already put in. The claim that if I don't make a decision and pay that my money will get frozen in the website. However, it sounds like they're asking me to just give up the money and be done with it. They asked are you giving it up? So it seems like the whole thing is just getting as much as they can. Do not trust them!
