A check that was mailed to me, was stolen from my mailbox and cashed here without proper identification.

I received a call identified on my phone as Western Union. Since I had sent an email to WU the day before, I thought it was a response from WU. Indeed, the person on the phone said he was calling to update my rewards and needed to verify my account number, email, etc. Before I realized this was bogus, I had given my bank account and credit card number to the caller. By the end of the call I was feeling very suspicious and called my bank, WU, my credit card company. Online at WU I saw a bogus transfer that was not completed. I hit cancel to stop the transaction and then began making calls and changing accounts and passwords. Apparently, I was not fast enough, because later I saw that the transfer had been completed to someone in Bangladesh that I did not know. Most likely it was a fictitious person. My credit card company investigated and recently informed me that they thought the charge was a scam and not fraud so that they are now charging me for the $711.89 transfer and the $20.79 charge ($732.68). Apparently the same party got into my paypal account which only had $30 balance and cleaned that out as well.

I received a text message (#98184) that said “Western Union: your money transfer MTCN XXXX has been sent. Track your transfer here: https://www.wu.com/?s=XXX….” Followed by another text “Vigo Services: Jose Andres picked up your money transfer MTCN XXXX” I have not sent money or used Western Union in years let alone I don’t know anyone whose name is Jose Andres.
