Man called and claimed to be Deputy Jeffrey Atkins from the Whatcom County Sheriffs Office. Said I had missed a Jury Summons for a week prior and they were calling because I now had a warrant out and could be arrested if I did not come to pay a fine of $2,017. When I pressed him for more information, he was vague and gave odd answers. Asked when the summons had been mailed out and he said it was in July, and that they knew everyone had been having mail delivery problems in our neighborhood but that it had been delivered because he had a record that it was signed for. I countered that no Jury Summons is signed for, so how could that be? Asked him more detail about the process and he said after I paid that I could go through the 'process', submit a written statement and get a dismissal and full reimbursement through the mail. He said if I didn't I could be taken to Whatcom County Jail, and I chuckled at him because everyone knows it's too full for anyone to be kept there. He finally hung up on me after a few more minutes of obviously incorrect information and increasing suspicion.
