A friend of mine is helping me find extra work. She sent me a job placement offer from a reputable employment agency. I responded to the inquiry via email and very quickly someone(who said she was Dr. Deborah Aptkins) texted me to interview. She stated that we were doing it via text since she is down with Covid-19 hence why she needs an assistance for data entry. I gave her basic information like my name, email, home address, and phone number. I completely went wrong when the I was offered the JOB(exact text verbiage). This was for a remote assistant position. She proceeded to send me a check for my work materials such as laptop and printer. I deposited the check into my account and sent over confirmation. I believe she has all the necessary information to steal my identity and do it to others as well. I hope this is not as bad as I am assuming but I definitely got scam vibes since there was no real interview or contact with HR.
