Type of a scam Tech Support
The technician had her go through steps to give them remote access to her computer and then opened up safari and went to various websites claimed he needed to install a program to protect her computer and needed her to send them money over the phone to install the program. At this point she called me because she didn't trust him and I asked him what the problem was that he was trying to solve and he gave generic answers and couldn't answer what he was actually doing. I told him I worked in technology consulting and he still couldn't specifically say what the issue was she was having and just recited canned lines about security that were vague and unspecific to any issues he would have been diagnosing remotely.
I then asked what company he worked for and he said Wide Globe Tech. I asked where they were based and he said Michigan and he said their CEO was named Jason. Upon a quick google search I found the website https://wideglobetech.com/ but no indication that it is based in Michigan and there is no mention of names or management or anyone who works there. LinkedIn gave no results either. When I asked him what their website was to confirm he said "we're not Amazon or Facebook, our information isn't online, I can't tell you our website at this time" and at that point I knew it was a scam.
