A scammer stopped me in front of my house, using the name Richard/Ricky. He said he could remove a dying tree from my backyard. He looked over the tree and said he would do it for $900. He also said a few limbs needed removal from the other tree in the back and one in the front. That included cutting down the tree, cutting up the remains for firewood and removing the debris. He said I had to pay in cash, but he had another job that morning so would be back in the afternoon. I told him I needed a contract in writing and proof of his insurance. I went off on my errands and to the bank and got home well before noon. I let the dogs out into the back yard only to find several men in the yard and my tree in parts laying on the ground. I was very surprised as he was doing work without a contract or proof of insurance. He then discussed coming back the next day and having someone come to grind out the stump. His workers were exhausted, so, I fought with myself about paying him. But I felt sorry for the workers and did so. I have not seen him since. He has told me via phone that the stump guy was coming but he never showed. And another day said he would be here at noon. Never showed. I don't have an address. They were going door-to-door.
