Type of a scam Online Purchase
While the scammers were withdrawing the funds, they also attempted to get me to top up my account in order to continue the transaction. This is when I realized that I was being scammed. Unfortunately, the transaction proceeded until my account balance was insufficient to cover the full amount.
Immediately after this, I called Payoneer’s emergency number in New York. Although the funds were marked as “pending,” Payoneer stated that they could not intervene until the perpetrators withdrew the funds. When the money was eventually withdrawn, Payoneer informed me that I had to wait 30 days before I could file a dispute. Furthermore, I was told that I needed to contact the fraudsters to obtain a confirmation that they would not return the money, which seemed unreasonable and frustrating.
I also noticed that the first attempt to convert the funds was made into Ukrainian Hryvnia, leading me to believe that the perpetrators were likely based in Ukraine.
I reported the issue to Payoneer and italki, but both parties have been slow to address the matter, which has caused significant frustration and financial loss.
